Big Democratic donors are daunted by the vast field[1] of potential presidential candidates for 2020[2] and don’t know whom to support.

In years past, there was a rush to be the first to back Barack Obama[3], John Kerry[4] or Hillary Clinton[5]. But this year, there is no clear front-runner and indecision is at an all-time high.

When the leading donors get together, “We look at each other and shrug,” said one. “It’s like an eighth-grade dance. No one is committing.”

Would-be candidates cross the country meeting with potential contributors, but few checks are written. “A lot of pigs in blankets have gone to waste.”
